Tae KWON DO

Tang soo do

Demo Team

Tang Soo Do is a classical martial art, and it’s purpose is to develop every aspect of one’s self. Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan (House of Serenity-also Hall of Virtue) is a combination hard and soft style, deriving its hardness in part from Korean Soo Bahk Do aggressive styles and its softness from the flowing motions of Northern Chinese styles.

Tae Kwon Do literally means "The way of the hand and the foot", Tae meaning foot, Kwon meaning hand or fist and Do meaning way. Tae Kwon Do is the Korean art of unarmed fighting. Its earliest roots have been traced back over 2000 years to 50 B.C. when artists of the time incorporated images of classic Tae Kwon Do techniques in their works.

Modern-day Tae Kwon Do is a unique martial art incorporating the quick linear movements that characterize the various Japanese styles and the flowing circular movements of many of the Chinese styles. But what truly distinguishes Tae Kwon Do are its varied and uniquely powerful kicking techniques. It is this prominent use of leg and kicking techniques that sets Tae Kwon Do apart from all other martial art systems. Approximately 70% of the techniques in Tae Kwon Do are kicking techniques. The added reach and strength of the legs make them superior at delivering powerful blows.

In addition to this Tae Kwon Do makes use of a very mobile, upright fighting stance that allows for quick action on the part of the fighter. While other systems use deeper stances giving them more stability, the philosophy behind Tae Kwon Do's stances is that it is better to be able to move quickly on your feet than to be firmly rigid and rooted in one place. For this reason Olympic style Tae Kwon Do is very fast and strong. Tae Kwon Do gained official Olympic status in the 2000 Olympics in Australia. American, Steven Lopez won the gold medal, defeating Korea in the final round. Due to the speed and power of Tae Kwon Do sparring, it has become the most popular martial art in the world.

Tae Kwon Do is much more than simply a system concerned with physical prowess, it is also an art directed toward the moral development of its students. The tenets of Tae Kwon Do are:

  Courtesy

  Integrity

  Perseverance

  Self Control

  Indomitable Spirit

  Humility

  Courage

As martial artists, we try to live by these tenets. Being a Christian Tae Kwon Do school we also try to live by Christ's example believing as he said that to "Love your God with all your heart and with all your mind and with all your soul, and to Love your neighbor as yourself" are the most important rules to live by. Each belt is required to learn a Bible verse and understand its meaning. Children are taught to have respect for their families by cleaning their rooms, doing things the first time they are told, learning their parents birthdays, etc. All of this incorporates the "do" or way of the Tae Kwon Do martial artist in our system.

TaeMooDo has its roots in ancient Asian Martial Arts integrated with historic Oriental Healing Arts, aspects of which have been used in Asia for more than 5,000 years to maintain a healthy mind and body and to treat injury or illness.  The literal translation of “Kimoodo” is “the way of 'Life Energy' merged in the discipline of martial arts”.

Grandmaster Tiger Bang modified Kimoodo to develope the TaeMooDo art and practices after himself suffering a near fatal automobile accident and needing some way to rehabilitate his broken body. Grandmaster Bang drew upon his 40+ years of experience in multiple martial arts, acupuncture and acupressure, hypnosis, and Eastern philosophy to distill the basic practices into one holistic rehabilitation system.  Grandmaster Bang, now a ninth degree Taekwondo black belt, continues to teach several times a week and travels worldwide to introduce people to the Art of TaeMooDo.

TaeMooDo's methods are holistic and harness the practitioner’s “Life Energies" in the healing process. The practitioner’s mind, body, spirit and emotion work together to maintain in the best condition and fight injury, illnesses and overcome hardships in life.

Holistic Life Skills · Stress Relief · Balanced Life · Health & Fitness · Peace & Harmony Grandmaster Bang's disciplined and focused approach to train the mind, body and emotion heightens overall life skills of practitioners. The results are increased self esteem and confidence, greater stamina, release of tension, and increased muscle tone, speed, power, endurance, stamina, and flexibility. In addition to these benefits, TaeMooDo teaches effective self defense skills in slow motion with breathing and concentration developing techniques tailored to the needs of each individual.  TaeMooDo thus enhances holistic life skills and offers a greater understanding of life, self and nature.

"All living things are born to live, to live to be healthy and happy and accept the destiny of death with peace and dignity."

Through exercise regimens and meditative breathing techniques designed for each individual case, Grandmaster Bang guides practitioners from sickness and injuries toward health.  He leads them from anger, fear, depression, stress and confusion to harmony, peace and happiness.

Grandmaster Bang has long applied the healing art TaeMooDo to the unique problems of each person. He has helped sufferers of various physicals problems which include terminal cancer, osteoarthritis, muscle, joint and back injuries, stroke patients as well as various kinds of emotional and mental problems such as ADD, ADHD, and sleeping disorder. TaeMooDo is a viable rehabilitation system for all ages and professions regardless of extent of their current condition.

SPECIAL SELF DEFENSE PROGRAM

The term Kung Fu refers to the martial arts of China. Kung Fu originated in a place called the Shaolin Temple, where monks practiced Kung Fu for health and self-defense during their quest for enlightenment.  The first Shaolin temple was a Buddhist monastery built in 377 A.D. in the Henan province of China. In 527 A.D. a Buddhist prince, Bodhidharma, or Da Mo in Chinese, traveled to the temple for religious teachingbut found the monks weak and in poor health. To find a way to give the monks strength and vitality, Da Mo locked himself in a room for nine years of meditation. His resulting work, Yi Jin Jing, a series of exercises which developed strength, vitality, and internal energy, is considered the original Shaolin martial art.

Hapkido is a Korean martial art. It is a discipline, like that of Tae Kwon Do, of coordination, a way of strengthening the mind and body, of fusing the individual’s physical and mental abilities so that he or she will emerge a more fully integrated human being. It literally means the way of harmonizing energy. Hap means coordination harmony. Ki means energy, and do means way or art of. Hap Ki Do is known as a "soft" martial art similar to aikido. This is opposed to a "hard" martial art which utilizes strikes and force against force. A "soft" martial art uses the opponent’s power and redirects it to use it against them.  Hapkido employs powerful kicking techniques like Korean Tae Kyon, throwing techniques like Japanese Aikido and Jujitsu, and hand techniques like Chinese Kenpo. It is concise and practical, the result of a 1300 year pursuit of the ultimate lifestyle.Through the use of pressure points and joint manipulation, very little strength is needed to overcome an opponent. Hap Ki Do is a system of self-defense which allows us to defend attackers from many different positions including holds, wrist grabs, chokes, weapons, etc.
